Construction Architecture and STEAM Education
Journel Entry #1: A structural engineer according to google is a specialty with civil engineering. They basically observe construction sites with floor plans, drawings, and they also do engineering. They sometimes work on structural design, making sure the physical work and wall structure is able to maintain weight, weather, and other things that could possibly corrupt the wall. The structural design of the building is very important not only for the buildings physical appearence but making sure the building is safe and easily accessible. Structural engineering jobs are good for construction companies who are planning out the buildings engineering.simple engineering skills require a door to open and close, but engineering can be much more than hinges. The tallest building in the wor;d is Burj Khalifa, and it's about 2717' tall. It's located in Dubai, am Arabic country. There isn't much information on how the building is structured, but it's pretty big. It's much more complicated but I think the reason the building is shaped in a Y is because of its modular design. In other words it looks like the building is made up of very smaller buildings. It's not a building for business, but it is a resort of some sort. The only information it says about the floorplan is what the inspiration was, which relates back to our own work back at school. I wonder how long the construction process took, its a very tall and complex building. It must've had a lot of safety requirements and inspections.
A foundation in building construction is basically the base of it. It's what positions the building and shows where the walls need to go. Foundations are not benificial though. They disrupt wildlife areas and we are taking away animals homes. In these pictures above, we decided to not build a foundation but instead build above the land so we didn't destroy as much. It may not seem that much clean or professional, but it is eco friendly. We decided to use floorboards to prevent venomous bugs and snakes from making their new home on the finished buildings. The stone foundation may be more sturdy, but not benificial for other living beings.
On the first day of space for art, I expected this to be miserable work load with my design group. I really do not like them and I thought I would have to deal with them for the rest of the year. The old site wasn't that bad, sometimes the weather would be intense but we had running water and bathrooms. I honestly miss the old site, the new one is worst. It smells, there's no air conditioning, there's bugs, and it's really hot. There's also weeds everywhere. At least I don't have to work with my group. I learned so many new things from the new site. I drill, measure, and cut wood more. It was never just one person doing all the work.
