The Genetics Story: This project was researching some sort of genetic trait or related disease we were interested in. Most people chose eye color, hair texture, body parts and etc... I chose Vitiligo. Vitiligo is a very unknown disease because it's not known to be a genetic trait but it's known to run in the family. There is no cure to vitiligo however it can be hidden away. We were able to present our posters and presentations before we went on internship. We got to see so many genetic stories and posters. This was my favorite biology project because I was very passionate about it.
The Arduino Project: This was a long term project in which we learned the basics of breadboards and how circuits work. In that time, we practiced the basics of coding and using an Arduino chip. We also learned the difference between hardware and software. Once we covered the basics, we got to move on to more advanced stuff like using the thermometer. Once we learned the more advanced basics of coding, we were able to build and craft our temperature sensors. We did drafts of lazer cut cardboard on tinker cad. The perfect model was created using acrylic (which I accidentally cut a hole in my finger by breaking off a piece). We partnered with the ichthyology class and were able to make the sensors work with the aquariums. Scientific Poster: This project was focusing on the aspect of research in a subject of our choice. My group and I were the only ones that researched the LGBT teen community rather than cells and biology. Ours was a bit more difficult but we managed to create a survey and advertise it on social media so we could get responses. Unfortunately, most schools would not partner with us, and they never emailed us back. In the end, we made an enormous scientific poster which was designed by myself. It was presented on exhibition and it is now hanging in the classroom. |
